Fish for a Cure Website

Fish For A Cure is a non-profit event to raise money for the fight against breast cancer and support of the Anne Arundel Medical Center. The design of the website was done pro-bono while the application development was produced at a discounted rate. The goal of the site is to raise money through the “Captains Challenge” – a donation contest, boat entries, party attendees, and silent auction. Largest fish caught wins you a little prestige and a small purse. The previous website raised $18,000. This first year the site was launched it brought in $150,000. Most recently we’ve added enhancements to make event ticket purchasing easier – the result was a net of $180,000. More updates are already being planned.

The site was built on the Joomla development platform. We did so in order to accommodate the need for on-the-fly account registrations and e-commerce donations and ticket purchases. Donations are transacted and updated visually, showing the real-time status of the "Captains Challenge". The silent auction was handled through an eBay plugin allowing items to be displayed on a page of the site. A news blog was instituted for updates and to help boost search engine optimization.
